Services of Franciscan Sisters congregation lauded

Kanimozhi lays foundation stone for terminal care centre

Silent service: Kanimozhi, MP, Peter Alphonse, MLA and Mother Lourdu Mary, Superior General at the sesquicentenary celebrations of the congregation of Franciscan Sisters of Our Lady of Bon Secours, Chennai, on Tuesday.

CHENNAI: Rajya Sabha Member Kanimozhi on Tuesday laid the foundation stone for a terminal care centre, marking the sesquicentenary celebrations of the congregation of Franciscan Sisters of Our Lady of Bon Secours, Chennai.

Ms.Kanimozhi commended the selfless service of Franciscan Sisters for providing comprehensive medicare to the weaker sections of society and imparting education to the masses.

Appealing to the non-governmental agencies to supplement the efforts of the government in eradicating cancer and AIDS from Tamil Nadu, she said there was still lack of awareness among the rural population especially among the younger generation.

She wanted the Franciscan Sisters movement to concentrate on the control of AIDS and eradication of cancer disease.

Ms.Kanimozhi released multi-coloured 150 balloons to mark the celebrations.

Peter Alphonse, MLA, lauded the silent service of Franciscan Sisters in ameliorating the sufferings of the poor and commended their sacrifice they have made for the sake of others. He released a special souvenir brought out on the occasion.

M. Ponnavaikko, Vice-Chancellor, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchi, had a word of praise for the services rendered by Franciscan Sisters Congregation and wanted this movement to be further strengthened to cover the needy.

Mother Lourdu Mary, Superior General, said the Congregation founded in 1858 in the Union Territory of Puducherry had branched out in different parts of the country.

Rev. Fr. Victor, Chennai Mission Superior, presided over the thanksgiving Eucharistic.
