Logica sets up new facility

It can accommodate 1,500 employees

CHEENAI: The U.K.-based global IT and management consultancy company, Logica, has inaugurated its new facility in Chennai on Thursday, the second one in India. The new facility, spread across 1.2 lakh sq. ft., has a capacity to seat 1,500 employees. The company has earmarked an investment of around British pound sterling 8 million (around Rs. 68 crore) to accelerate blended delivery and grow its off-shore and near-shore centres. It plans to have 8,000 employees in these centres by the end of 2009.

Andy Green, Global Chief Executive, Logica, and Logica’s Executive Committee, who was in Chennai to inaugurate the new facility at DLF IT Park, told reporters that “India is a key strategic market for Logica and the new facility in Chennai will further accelerate the deployment of the company’s successful blended global delivery model. As the centre grows, the company will build specific competency areas based on client requirements.”

He said at present the company was concentrating on verticals such as transport, oil and natural gas, telecom, government and financial sectors in India.

Abhay Gutpa, Chief Executive Officer of Logica India, said the strategy would be to focus on organic growth from Logica’s existing footprint. The European market had become receptive to a blended model. An investment of pound sterling 10 million would be made in 2008-09 in these areas.
