Bangalore: The Resource Alliance and the Nand and Jeet Khemka Foundation have announced “India NGO Awards 2008” with an aim to promote the financial and organisational sustainability of society and strengthening community support for their work.
The award identifies exemplary non-profit organisations across the country that can serve as role models. The awards, instituted in 2006, have worked as a catalyst to spread awareness on the need for good practices and standards in resource mobilisation, accountability and transparency. The evaluation of the organisations is done on the basis of effective and sustainable mobilisation of resources from the local community, demonstration of efficient management of resources, good governance practices, transparency, accountability and the impact of its services on the community. All organisations registered in India as trusts, societies and Section-25 companies that have been working for a minimum of five years for social and environmental transformation may apply. Organisations that propagate political or religious doctrines are excluded. The last date for filing the applications is October 4. The entries will be divided into three categories based on the annual budgets — small (below Rs. 50 lakh), medium (between Rs. 50 lakh and Rs. 5 crore) and large (above Rs. 5 crore). Three finalists in a category will be selected from four regions (north, south, east and west) and will be invited to the final national award ceremony to be held in Delhi, where one winner will be announced in each category. The three national winners in each category will receive a trophy and cash prize of Rs. 4 lakh each.
