DMK functionary murdered

Chennai: N. Shanmuga Velayutham (48), a ruling party functionary of Maduravoyal, died in a clash between the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) cadres at Vanagaram here on Thursday night.

Police said that a quarrel over eve-teasing led to the clash between the two groups. Velayutham, who tried to intervene, was stabbed and rushed to Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital, where he was declared dead.

Chennai Suburban Commissioner S.R. Jangid, who visited the spot, said six persons were taken into custody .
