No problem on security front, says Dasmunsi

NEW DELHI: Information and Broadcasting Minister Priyaranjan Dasmunsi on Thursday denied that the security situation in the country had deteriorated since the Congress-led UPA government came to power.

“There was a record number of pilgrims during the Amarnath Yatra this year. This was because the people had become more confident about the security situation under the UPA government,” he told reporters here.

On why none was being held accountable for the terror strikes, he shot back: “Can anyone predict a terrorist strike? No government can prevent it.”

Asked about the violence in Karnataka and Orissa, in which Bajrang Dal activists were reportedly involved, he reiterated that the government was determined to put down mischief “whichever side it came from.” The government was “carefully and actively” watching the Bajrang Dal’s activities, he said.
