Cakewalk for SRM

CHENNAI: SRM chalked out a 6-0 win over Sir Theagaraya College in a league match of the CFA- S. Nagalingam memorial inter-collegiate football tournament at the Loyola College ground on Thursday.

Udaykumar, Venkatesan (two), Manikandan, Suresh and Azharuddin were the scorers.

Other results: St. Joseph’s 1 (Premkumar) bt Jeppiar; Loyola 1 (Chinnaiah) bt Pachaiyappa’s 0.

SDAT beats ICF

Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT) beat off a strong challenge from ICF in the men’s section of the Cholamandalam Sports Trust Velammal Trophy volleyball tournament at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium on Thursday.

The results:

Men: SDAT bt ICF 25-21, 20-25, 25-22, 25-18; Indian Bank bt Sathyabhama University 25-18, 25-19, 25-20.

Women: Hindustan Sports Foundation bt Cholamandalam Sports Trust 25-13, 25-17; Armed Police bt Dr. Sivanthi Club 25-15, 20-25, 25-20; GKM bt JBAS 25-13, 25-8.

Bilwaprasad dazzles

M. Bilwaprasad made 121 to take Combined Districts to 389, on the second day of the match against City XI for the R.T. Parthasarathy Trophy under-19 cricket tournament at SRMC-Turf. Bilwaprasad put on 145 runs for the fourth wicket with Kevin Sukumar.

A.K. Balachandar picked six wickets for 75 runs for City.

The scores: Combined Districts 389 in 155.1 overs (S. Aravindan 42, A.C. Prathiban 27, M. Bilwaprasad 121, Kevin Sukumar 67, Aashish Kumar 65, A.K. Balachandar six for 75) vs City XI 64 for one in 22 overs (S. Karthik 26 batting).

Easy for City

City worked out an easy win over Combined Districts in a women’s senior match played at Jaya Engineering college ground on Thursday.

The scores: City 222 in 50 overs (Arthi Sankaran 36, M.D. Thirushkamini 30, N. Niranjana 25) bt Combined Districts 83 in 29.1 overs (V. Subha three for 10).

Narayan-Subramaniam duo wins

P. Narayan Iyer and R.N. Subramaniam finished first from North-South at the open pairs event held at Mylapore Club here on Wednesday.

V.N. Ramamurthy and A. Sridhar won in the East-West direction.

The results: North-South: 1. P. Narayan Iyer & R.N. Subramaniam (69.52 per cent), 2. K. Arun Kumar & S.A. Ganapathy (61.43), 3. G. Thirumurthy & Venky Naik (56.90), 4. Lakshmi Chari & Sherien Ryan (56.67).

Double for St. Joseph’s

St. Joseph’s College of Engineering won the men’s hockey and women’s volleyball titles in the Anna University inter-Zone tournaments recently.

In the hockey final at Alagappa Institute of Technology (Karaikudi), St. Joseph’s defeated College of Engineering (Guindy) 2-1, while in the volleyball summit clash at the PSNA College of Engineering (Dindigul), St. Joseph’s overcame Panimalar 25-19, 25-17, 25-11.

Pachaiyappa’s triumphs

Pachaiyappa’s defeated Loyola 4-1 in the final of the University of Madras inter-zonal hockey tournament, organised by the Department of Physical Education, University of Madras, at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium recently.

Women’s football trials

Trials to select the CFA women’s under-18 team will be held at the Nehru stadium from September 24 to 27 (6.30 a.m.). The cut-off date for eligibility is 1-1-1990. The team will take part in the inter-district championship to be held at Kancheepuram. For details, call 94441-47734 / 25389399.
