Intel India designed microprocessor launched

BANGALORE: Intel’s first six-core x86 microprocessor, to be marketed as Xeon 7400 series, launched here recently, was designed by the Intel India team here.

It may also be the first microprocessor to be completely designed in India.

Codenamed ‘Dunnington’ during its development, it is compatible with the Xeon 7300 range, while delivering one-and-a half times more performance and power savings, R. Ravichandran, Director–Sales, Intel South Asia told reporters here.

The Intel facility here carried out post-silicon validation, he said. This was to determine manufacturability and compliance with parameters.

The processor met the needs of large scale datamining, business intelligence and enterprise resource planning.

Intel India’s President Praveen Vishakantaiah said , “Trials showed run time can be reduced by 46 per cent with significant power savings. Datacentre complexity can also be reduced, helping enterprises”.

The Bangalore centre was now involved with Intel’s business intelligence applications; there was a separate technology and manufacturing group here.
