Cooperative university in the offing

MADURAI: The National Council for Cooperative Training (NCCT) was taking steps to establish Jawaharlal Nehru International Cooperative University. It had been registered and the proposal was under consideration by the University Grants Commission, NCCT Chairman G.H. Amin said here on Monday.

He was addressing the silver jubilee celebrations of Institute of Cooperative Management at Chinna Udaippu near here. An MBA course, affiliated to the Madurai Kamaraj University, was also launched. “We are committed to taking forward the principles of cooperatives. Introduction of professional courses at all units under the control of NCCT will be facilitated.” Quilty education and right training could help propel the Indian economy.

Cooperation Minister Ko. Si. Mani said that though many banks had come up, it was only the cooperative banks that could meet the needs of rural people.

Jatindra Nath Swain, Registrar of Cooperatives Societies, and R. Rajendran, Additional Registrar/Special Officer, Tamil Nadu Cooperative Union, and S. S. Jawahar, Collector spoke.
