Unstoppable: Students of SASTRA University with the rolling shield in Tiruchi on Sunday.

TIRUCHI: SASTRA University romped home with its 10th rolling shield at the cultural fest of National Institute of Technology-Tiruchi, bagging the overall championship of Festember ’08 on Sunday.

With this capping a hat-trick win for them, celebrations were in the air and the fun was palpable. After seven successive wins from 1997 to 2003, they recreated their success story from 2006. “We were glad to win the prestigious event. We invite the NIT-ians for our ‘Kuruksastra 09’ with a promise of being as accommodative, hospitable and fair as they are,” a student volunteer said, orchestrated by encouraging applause from the host college.

The REC Alumni Association (RECAL) presented a cup to the students on its behalf.

Giving away the Ilayaraja Rolling Shield, the Managing Director of Kaveri Medical Centre and Seahorse Hospitals, S. Chandra Kumar, said success was for those who dared to push themselves harder.

Weaving analogies of success stories in his speech, he urged the students to work hard, set their objectives and dream big.

Opportunities have grown far and wide in India and students must be willing to look beyond engineering and medicine. Students, he said, must also learn to work smart by systematic planning.

Director of NIT-T M. Chidambaram presided over. Staff advisors of Festember ’08 N. Sivakumaran and R. Jayashankar, and Dean (Students) S. Kumanan offered felicitations. Cultural Secretary of Festember ’08 Varun G. presented the report of the event.

Chairman of Festember ’08 R. Arun Kumar, Treasurer Harshendu Patel and Marketing Chairman Nilanjan Roy spoke.

Students of SASTRA got better of 2,000 students from 75 colleges at this mega inter-collegiate event.

Topping music, arts, dance, literature, oration and dramatics, they recorded a whopping 115 points to win the trophy.
