Death toll rises to five

Coimbatore: The death toll in the accident involving an ambulance and a maxicab at Kolarpatti on the Pollachi-Udumalpet Road rose to five on Monday with one more person succumbing to injuries in hospital.

The accident took place while Rajamani, who was injured in a road accident on the Udumalpet–Tirupur road, was being taken to hospital in the ambulance. Rajamani, Karthikeyan and driver Pandian died on the spot. Ramasamy alias Appukutty died in hospital. Rajamani’s husband Palanisamy died on Monday morning. Malaisamy (44) and Selvi are undergoing treatment.
