‘Indian sides will have the advantage’

Chennai: Cameron White, skipper of the Victoria Bushrangers, and Marcus North, captain of the Western Warriors, are confident that the inaugural Champions Twenty20 League will throw up exciting matches. Victoria Bushrangers and Western Warriors, the top Twenty20 sides in Australia, will be among the eight sides taking part in the competition.
The matches, to be held between December 3 and 10 in India, will be telecast on ESPN.
“We have batsman Brad Hodge and paceman Peter Siddle, who is here with the Australian team, as the more famous names but the Bushrangers are essentially a team that stresses on team-spirit and team-work than on star value. We have fought well as a unit,” said White, interacting with presspersons, here, on Tuesday. North said his team was coached by Tom Moody, former Sri Lankan coach. “We have Shaun Marsh, with whom you will be familiar with in India. He is an exciting shot-maker. Then we have wicket-keeper batsman Luke Ronchi and Adam Voges. It’s a young side and the emerging players have a good opportunity to showcase their skills and get into one of the IPL teams,” said North.
A prolific scorer in Australian first class cricket, North said Twenty20 cricket need not affect a batsman’s technique. “It’s about how an individual handles the change, how he adapts himself to the demands of the various formats,” he said.
Both the Aussies felt that the two Indian sides in the competition, the Rajasthan Royals and the Chennai Super Kings, will have an advantage since the cricketers will be familiar with the conditions in India.
