Opinion - Letters to the Editor

Signal of change

The news item ‘End of the line for a clan’ (September 23) literally blew the whistle for an Anglo-Indian train driver in Mumbai. There must be many like him in the Anglo-Indian community — particularly in the Indian Railways — in other parts of India. It is a matter of pride for the clan that rail lines run through the length and breadth of our country with the “nerves of steel” of the Anglo-Indian men. The news item was a tribute to the core team of manpower in the Railways, the Post and Telegraphs, the Customs, the Defence, hospitals, and, more important, schools and colleges which consisted, in majority, of members of the community. Their spirit and dynamism will be forever.
