New Delhi: With the issue of Prime Ministerial candidate of the party coming to the fore again, the Congress on Tuesday said it has a leader in Rahul Gandhi, who “hundred per cent fits the bill.” “He [Rahul] would not like to gamble on such things.. He is a practical person who knows his priorities today. He is not greedy to capture power,” Congress media department chief Veerappa Moily told journalists here. ‘We have a Prime Minister. What is the hurry. We are not here to speak on what will happen after the elections. It will be a Congress Prime Minister,” he said to questions from journalists on projection of a Prime Ministerial candidate.
On the statement of party President Sonia Gandhi on August 15 that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will unfurl the tricolour from the Red Fort next year and whether he endorsed it, Mr. Moily said if the party President had spoken about it, he had nothing more to add. “Our PM is strong, stable and we are proud of him.”
Mr. Moily, in a statement, dismissed as “not correct” news reports quoting Mr. Gandhi as saying that the question of his elevation as Prime Minister was open and not closed. — PTI
