Vivekananda wins

VIJAYAWADA: Chittoor’s Vivekananda English Medium HS clinched the Dr. Gokaraju Gangaraju Trophy in the Andhra Cricket Association’s inter-district schools tournament defeating Kurnool’s Balasai International School by eight wickets at IGMC Stadium here on Tuesday.

Vivekananda’s Zakeer Basha picked up five wickets for 25 runs.

K.V. Rajendranath Reddy, Commissioner of Police, gave away the prizes.

The scores: Balasai IS 61 in 20.3 overs (Zakeer Basha five for 25, G. Dinesh four for 13) lost to Vivekananda EMHS 64 for two in 11.2 overs.

Selection trials

The Krishna District Amateur Athletic Association will conduct selection trials for u-14 and u-16 boys and girls at Kethanakonda Sports School on September 28. The selected district team will take part in the sixth National inter-district athletic meet to be held at Haridwar (Uttarkhand) from October 22 to 24.

The Krishna District School Games Federation will conduct trials to select the district weightlifting team in the u-14 and 17 segments for boys and girls on September 28.

Vijayasree impresses

City swimmer G. Vijayasree Gupta won four gold medals in the 5th National Masters swimming championship which concluded at Indore on September 21. She stood first in 50m and 100m butterfly, 400m freestyle and individual 4x50 medley in the 60-plus age category.
