Eight-wicket haul by Abhishek

CHENNAI: Leg-spinner Abhishek Mehra’s eight for 61 enabled City restrict Combined Districts to 203 on the second day of the three-day R.K. Venkatachalam Trophy under-16 cricket tournament at SRMC (Turf) here on Tuesday.

Resuming at seven for no loss, Districts finished the day 40 runs short of City’s first innings total. At stumps, City, in its second innings, was 22 for no loss.

The scores: City XI 243 & 22 for no loss in eight overs vs Combined Districts XI 203 in 86.3 overs (S. Omesh 25, R. Nilesh Subramanian 72, B. Gautham 44, P. S. Nirmal Kumar 30, Abhishek Mehra eight for 61).

Easy for ICF SA

K.S. Vijayaraghavan made an unbeaten 57 to steer ICF SA to a comfortable nine-wicket win against TI Cycles in a TNCA II Division match recently.

The scores: TSC 171 in 41.1 overs (R. Sampath 52, S.P. Nathan 44) lost to AG’s Office 177 for four in 43.1 overs (Sridhar Sriram 50, S. Manohar 40 not out, V. Vasudevan four for 49).

TI Cycles 118 in 48.1 overs lost to ICF SA 119 for one in 29.2 overs (K.S. Vijayaragavan 57 n.o., S. Vignesh 41).

Asif’s efforts go in vain

Mohammad Asif’s 120 and three wickets went in vain as Garnet RC lost to Gurunanak Combines by two wickets in a Canara Bank-Kancheepuram DCA first division league match recently.

The scores: Division I: Garnet 229 for nine in 45 overs (Mohammad Asif 120, K.V. Balachandra Bharath four for 67) lost to Gurunanak Combines 233 for eight in 44 overs (K.V. Balachandra Bharath 55).

Kattankulathur 167 for nine in 40 overs bt Friends XI 141 in 36.1 overs (Bharat Ram 68).

Division II: Vijay 212 for eight in 30 overs (Gugan 68, K. Jagatheesh 57, M. Senthil Kumar five for 55) bt SRI (TBM) 159 in 26.2 overs (M. Senthil Kumar 45, K. Jagatheesh five for 62).

Jain Combines 195 for seven in 25 overs (Navaneethan 40 not out) bt Areva 113 for eight in 25 overs (K.A. Raman 40 not out, Navaneethan six for 31).

National karate

The AIKF national karate championship, scheduled in Kolkata from September 25, will for the first time have an event for veterans — 40 years and above for men and 35 years and above for women. A referees’ seminar will also be conducted under the charge of Moheydin Ahmed Eldin Mohammed, a World Karate Federation Referees Council member from Egypt.
