Kozhikode: Violence is continuing unabated in Koyilandy town as the clashes between the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS)- Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have spread to new areas. In the latest incident, an RSS worker was attacked allegedly by CPI(M) cadres near the Kollam railway gate, one km away from Koyilandy town, in the early hours of Wednesday. N. Anandakrishnan, brother of N. Ajeesh, a local RSS leader, was assaulted by a group while he was going to his house. He has been admitted to the Koyilandi government hospital. The RSS leaders alleged that the CPI (M) workers were behind the attack. The incident took place in spite of the deployment of police personnel in large number in the town and the adjoining areas following violent clashes between the CPI (M) and the RSS-BJP combine in the past couple of days. A battalion of the Armed Reserve Police comprising 50 personnel had already been deployed in the area, the police said. The CPI(M) workers set on ablaze a motor spare parts shop owned by a BJP leader, K. Vinodkumar, on Tuesday in retaliation to an attack on three of its workers on Monday. A dawn-to-dusk hartal was observed by the BJP in the Koyilandy municipality area on Tuesday. Two CPI(M) activists were admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital here and the third injured person was admitted to the Koyilandy taluk hospital. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
