ON A JOURNEY: Students of Chennai Corporation schools set off on a tour on Wednesday. CHENNAI: Twenty-six students from Chennai Corporation schools on Wednesday started on their north India tour offered to them as a reward for scoring high marks in the Class X examinations. As the students sat inside coach S12 of the Grand Trunk Express to New Delhi, parents and family members who had come to see them off at Central Station offered last minute advice and waved goodbye. Many of the students had not travelled outside the city and were excited and nervous. Mayor M. Subramanian, who was also at the station, wished the students an enjoyable tour. He said the tour would motivate students to give their best in school and help them learn about other cities in India. Four teachers and a guide are accompanying the students. The Corporation would spend about Rs.3.5 lakh on the trip. The students, now in Class XI, would visit the Red Fort, India Gate, Parliament House, Teen Murti Bhavan, Qutub Minar and other places of historic interest in the capital. They would also visit Simla and Manali, view the retreat parade at the Wagah border and take a tour of Jaipur, Agra and Fatehpur Sikri. The tour would take 14 days. The students’ parents and siblings were visibly proud. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
