‘Valaikappu’ programme for pregnant women

NAMAKKAL: Health department conducted a ‘Valaikappu’ programme for pregnant women at the primary health centre located in Venkarai village in the district recently.

Thirty-five women in the advanced stage of pregnancy participated in the programme.

Their faces lit with hope, when the officials carried out the conventional ‘valaikappu’ rituals by offering bangles to them. Health officials said that the programme was primarily organised to create awareness.
