Two-day national symposium in Davangere

DAVANGERE: The S.S. Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre will host a two-day national symposium on “The role of Medical Council of India (MCI) in manpower planning and development” on the hospital premises here from Saturday.

The symposium is being organised as part of the platinum jubilee celebrations of the MCI.

P. Nagaraj, principal of the institute, and Kanteerava Balasaraswathi, director of the institute, told presspersons here on Thursday that S. Kantha, the former Vice-Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences and MCI representative, would inaugurate the symposium. Shyamanur Shivashankarappa, Davangere MLA and secretary of the Bapuji Education Association, will preside over the function.

Chandrashekar Shetty, Vice-Chancellor, Devaraj Urs Academy of Higher Education and Research Centre, Kolar, will deliver the keynote address.

Lack of adequate number of teachers in the field of medical education and lack of manpower in certain disciplines of medicine were among the issues that would be discussed at the symposium, Dr. Nagaraj said.

Over 100 doctors from different colleges and medical institutions across the country are expected to take part in the symposium in Davangere.
