Chinnamanur special council meet postponed

THENI: A special council meeting which was scheduled for Wednesday to bring no confidence motion against Chinnamanur municipal Chairperson Thamizh Sevli was postponed to October 20 as per direction of zonal director of municipal administration Chandresekaran.

A team comprising 22 out of 27 councillors cutting across party lines assembled in the conference hall of the Chinnamanur municipality in the morning. Ms. Thamizh Selvi was also present.

But the zonal director did not come to the municipality till 11 a.m.

Meanwhile, AIADMK party men protested against AIDDMK councillors who supported the no confidence motion proposed by the DMK and the Congress councillors.

Earlier, a group of persons allegedly prepared a list of persons to whom contracts should be awarded and pressurised the chairperson to sign an agreement.

When she refused, they brought a no-confidence motion against her.

Ms. Thamizh Selvi filed a petition in the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court seeking a stay on the proposed no confidence motion and protection for her.
