CHENNAI: Ganesha wearing binoculars, Ganesha performing yoga, Ganesha making pongal – 150 such terracotta avatars from Krishnagiri have arrived in Chennai.

And the lady who crafted them is M. Sujatha, whose handiwork could create a world record.

Her proposed entry for the Guinness book — miniature terracotta pots that measure one-fourth the size of an adult thumb.

All natural

“All the colours are natural. Even the black pot has not been coloured,” she says.

Ms. Sujatha heads a self-help group of seven women in Krishnagiri who create various products made of terracotta.

Her latest innovation is a Ganesha who measures half an inch seated in a colourful chariot.

She has also come up with a terracotta kolam – ornate pieces arranged to form an artistic pattern.

The creations of her SHG are part of the state-level Navaratri exhibition at the Karpagambal Kalyana Mandapam, at Mylapore, which is on till October 1.
