Four more records mark the second day

WINNING STROKES: J.P. Arjun, who set a record in the 50m freestyle event.

BANGALORE: Four more meet records tumbled on the penultimate day of the State senior aquatic championship at the K.C. Reddy Swim Centre here on Friday. Three of them came in the men’s section, with J.P. Arjun (50m freestyle), Aaron D’Souza (100m butterfly) and Rehan Poncha (200m backstroke) taking the honours.

D’Souza clocked 57.22 seconds to sink Shreesh Reddy’s mark of 59.59s set last year. Siddanth Deshmukh of KCR, who took silver, also bettered the meet mark with 58.31s.

Arjun and Poncha bagged two more golds each, taking their individual tally to four each. Arjun, after claiming the gold in his pet 200m breaststroke event, signed off the day in style winning the 50m freestyle in 24.70s, erasing Aniketh D’Souza’s four-year-old mark of 24.97s.

Poncha was hardly stretched in his 200m indivudal medley race. He came back to win the 200m backstroke with a record time of 2:12.69s, improving on his own record of 2:14. 21s set in 2004.

The National junior Group II champion, Arhatha Magavi continued her gold rush when she set the lone record in the women’s section, winning the 100m butterfly in 1:05.67s. bettering the two-year-old meet mark of 1:05.71s held by Shubha Chittaranjan.

National record holder Shikha Tandon was hardly pushed as she wrapped up the 50m freestyle in 27.52s. ASC (South) Centre bagged the waterpolo title for men, beating MEG and Centre in all Army final at 6-5.

Aaron D’Souza (BAC, 57.22s, NMR. Old: 59.59s), 2. Siddanth Deshmukh (58.31s, BMR), 3. Vishnu (MEG).
