Aim is to create awareness on ill-effects of alcoholism GUNTUR: The New Life Alcohol De-Addiction and Counselling Centre at Sathvika Hospital in Guntur will organise a State-wide competition for high school, Intermediate and degree college students in essay-writing and drawing to bring about awareness on the bad effects of alcoholism. Centre’s director S. Lalitha Kumari, in a release, said students could write an essay in some 1,000 words either in English or in Telugu on ‘Alcoholism consequences - remedial measures’. The painting or drawing should be on a 50 cm X 35 cm paper on the theme ‘Consequences of alcoholism’. PrizesEntries should be sent through school/college or individually duly endorsed by the principal to the New Life De-Addiction Centre, Sambasivapet, 1st Lane, Guntur - 522001. The entries should reach the centre by September 30. Prizes in every category would be presented on Gandhi Jayanthi by inviting the students to the centre. Cash prizes of Rs.3,000, Rs.2,000 and Rs.1,000 would be given for the best three entries. The event was being organised in association with the Jana Chaitanya Vedika. Several students were getting addicted to alcohol due to academic pressure and peer pressure to perform in the entrance examinations, said centre founder G. Vijaya Saradhi.
