Thief caught red handed

VILLUPURAM: The police nabbed a thief when he was removing a metal box containing Rs. 64,500 in cash from a moped at Thiruchitrambalam road junction near here on Friday.

The police said S. Sundaram (52) of Pulichapallam, a contractor, had just drawn the money from the Indian Bank branch to be disbursed among workers.

To buy flowers

On the way back home, he parked the moped at the road junction for buying flowers.

At that time, V. Srinivasa Reddy (20) of Vijayawada, who was hanging around, stealthily attempted to remove the box with a screwdriver. He was secured by the police and remanded to judicial custody.
