NEW DELHI: The National Human Rights Commission has issued notice to Delhi Police Commissioner Y. S. Dadwal, seeking a report on the September 19 Batla House encounter at Jamia Nagar. This followed a complaint filed by a non-governmental organisation, Real Cause. General secretary Kamran Siddiqui said he had moved the commission the same day raising suspicion over the genuineness of the encounter. “An NHRC team visited the spot on Monday.” Mr. Siddiqui said: “The police said two persons escaped during the encounter. If the area was cordoned off by them, how did the two escape? The police have also not shown the weapons they claim to have seized from the flat.” According to the complaint, some witnesses said the special cell police had brought two or three muffled men to Batla House before the encounter. Mr. Siddiqui said the police had claimed that slain inspector Mohan Chand Sharma sustained three bullet injuries, but a photograph of his being taken to hospital did not suggest that. “We have asked for reports on the post-mortem on the two young men and also on Sharma,” said Mr. Siddiqui. The NGO general secretary alleged that the police had not got the examination on the bodies of Mohammad Bashir alias Atif and Mohammad Fakruddin videographed.
