A. Monic’s body was found on the rail track on Friday.
CHENNAI: In a shocking incident, a two-year-old boy was kidnapped for ransom and murdered on Thursday night. His body was thrown on the railway track near Tirumullaivoyal near here. According to police sources, A. Sailaja (24) of Sowcarpet lodged a complaint with the Elephant Gate police at 10 p.m. on Thursday that her son, A. Monic, who was playing with one of her relatives, R. Jugnu (35) of Seven Wells, was missing. Minutes later, Jugnu called to say that he was taking the boy to New Delhi by train. A special team rushed to the central railway station and searched the Chennai-New Delhi Tamil Nadu Express. Searches were also conducted in some lodges in the area but there was no trace of the accused. At around 11 p.m., Sailaja received a call from Jugnu, threatening to kill the boy if he was not paid money. While the quantum of the ransom was not revealed, police said Sailaja agreed to pay the money to save her only son. However, the mobile phone from which the accused called was switched off later. The Cyber Crime police were alerted to monitor the mobile phone conversations and tower location. Shortly after midnight, Jugnu called a family member and said he had murdered Monic and dumped the body on the railway track between Ambattur and Tirumullaivoyal. Accompanied by the family members, police reached the spot and found the body. Monic’s head was crushed resulting in instant death. “We have formed special teams to arrest Jugnu. He was living with the family (of Sailaja) at Sowcarpet. It is not clear how much money he demanded after kidnapping the boy,” Joint Commissioner of Police (North), Abhay Kumar Singh said. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
