Conduct medical counselling fresh, says High Court

Correspondent

CUTTACK: Counselling for admission into vacant MBBS and BDS seats of all the three government medical colleges in the State would be held once again and the process should complete by September 30. This was ordered by the High Court on Thursday while disposing of a petition filed by one Manas Ranjan Behera.

Behera, who has taken admission in SCB medical college BDS wing, moved the HC stating that as many as 12 MBBS seats are now falling vacant this year in all the three government medical colleges of the State after completion of counselling last month.

Seeking a second counselling to fill up these prestigious and precious seats, Behera had sought HC intervention.

Adjudicating over the petition Justice M.M. Das ordered the State Government to make arrangements for second counselling and complete the process by filling up the vacant seats by September 30.

Clarification

The HC further clarified that since some BDS seats would fall vacant as students from this wing are likely to occupy the MBBS seats, steps should also be taken to fill up the BDS seats eventually falling vacant.

It may be mentioned here that MBBS seats (five in Cuttack, four in Berhampur and three in Burla) fell vacant as some students who had also cleared some all India medical entrance examinations preferred to pursue their studies outside the State.
