Good Samaritans: Sahayata Trust and Indian Muslim Relief and Charity members distributing Id food packets in the city on Friday. Hyderabad: A kind hand that feeds the needy is always blessed by those who receive charity. This was pretty evident at a donation camp that was jointly organised by Sahayata Trust and Indian Muslim Relief and Charity (IMRC) at Chatta Bazaar in old city on Friday. Over 150 people, all residents of old city, gathered at the Elite School at Chatta Bazaar to receive a ‘Id packet’ that contains 10 kg of rice, half-kg of vermicelli, one-kg of sugar, a packet of dry fruits and 200 grams of ghee. The trust has a team of volunteers who go around the old city to collect details of poor families, especially during Ramzan. “We have surveyed over 200 villages in the State and have prepared a list of poor families who receive donations all through out the year,” informs Abbadulla, Chief Executive of Sahayata Trust. Every year, since the inception of the trust 25 years back, it donates over 2000 packets that contain rice, dal, chilly powder, turmeric, sugar, ghee and vermicelli, every year in various villages through out the State. “Most of the families do not have anything to eat during Ramzan. So every year such packets are distributed to them so that they celebrate Ramzan and can make Sheer Khurma too!,” says Mr. Abbadullah. “A number of them who come to receive donations are widows without any jobs,” he adds. Shanaz Begum, a resident of Chatta Bazaar was among the people who had come to the camp. “I come here every year and the trust has been kind enough to feed us every year during Ramzan,” says the mother of eight children. Apart from rice and other items, the trust also donates sarees, suits for girls and a pair of trousers and shirts too. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
