TIRUMALA: Ahead of the 9-day Navarathri Brahmothsavam of the Lord Venkateswara scheduled to get underway at Tirumala from October 1, the TTD has procured a sophisticated fire engine to be stationed near the Temple during the period of the fete to meet any exigency. The Rs.43 lakh fire-tender is said to be fitted with a 3-way fire fighting system -- one by spraying and splashing water, secondly by pumping foam and the third system gives it the capability to spew at the fire foam mixed with chemicals for effectively dousing the fire. Sources said that its jet also has a high range capacity. Engineers from the company which manufactured the fire engine have today given training to both the TTD’s vigilance staff and the firemen in handling the various systems of the ultra-modern fire tender. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
