Microbiology has good future: V-C

VIJAYAWADA: Speakers at a national seminar on ‘Recent trends in medical and industrial microbiology’, organised at the PB Siddhartha College of Arts and Science here on Saturday, stressed the need for enabling students to reap good benefits out of emerging opportunities in the field of microbiology, bio-technology and their industrial applications. Delivering the keynote address, Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences Vice-Chancellor A.V. Krishnam Raju said that in the past, computer sciences and IT-related fields had created tremendous opportunities, but now even higher benefits were coming from biological sciences. Advancements and modern techniques being followed in medical microbiology provided rich scope for young people.

G. Srinivas, deputy secretary and head of the South Eastern Regional Office of the UGC, called upon the colleges and universities to come out with new courses in emerging sciences like microbiology at the post-graduate level, so that young people would derive full benefits out of this.

Siddhartha Academy of General and Technical Education Secretary P.L.N. Prasad, who presided over the meeting, welcomed the suggestion of the UGC Deputy Secretary and expressed willingness to take advantage of the present situation.

Principal N. Satyanarayana said the college was in the forefront of ushering in new courses at undergraduate and post-graduate levels with the sole objective of strengthening higher education opportunities in the region.
