GIVING A PEP TALK: AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa addressing schoolchildren who won prizes in sports competitions organised by the party recently. CHENNAI: AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa on Sunday gave Rs.1.08 lakh to Chennai-based fencer C.A. Bhavani Devi for attending the Asian fencing competition in South Korea. The gesture followed a request from Ms. Devi, who will be utilise the money for travel expenses. On an earlier occasion, too, Ms. Jayalalithaa had helped Ms. Devi to meet her travel expenses to Singapore. But, she could not participate in the competition due to delay in getting a visa, a party press release stated. Ms. Jayalalithaa also gave away gold medals and rolling trophies to students who won various competitions organised in connection with the 91st birth anniversary of AIADMK founder MGR and her 60th birthday. The competitions were organised by International MGR Mandram, Tuticorin district and Karur district units.
