RETRACING HISTORY: Local Administration Minister M.K. Stalin at an exhibition organised to commemorate the Chennai Corporation’s 320th anniversary in Chennai on Sunday. Chennai: Black and white photographs of old Madras and colourful pictures of Chennai told the story of the evolution of a city and its local body at an exhibition organised at Ripon Building on Sunday. Local Administration Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated the exhibition of photographs to commemorate the Chennai Corporation’s 320th anniversary. The Corporation was formed on September 29, 1688. The exhibition, which includes vintage photos of the Marina, Egmore railway station, the Central station, the High Court, Broadway and Kapaleeswarar Temple, is open for public viewing till Saturday. Mr. Stalin also launched new uniforms for the Corporation’s 14,000 workers. He said the uniforms were designed by the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) to be user-friendly. The paisley-print uniforms can absorb sweat and have extra pockets. Women workers have the option of wearing saris or salwar kurtas. About 9,700 men and 4,300 women working in the sanitation, stormwater drains and electricity departments would receive the uniforms. Mayor M. Subramanian, Municipal Administration and Water Supply Secretary K. Deenabandu and the Corporation Commissioner Rajesh Lakhoni participated in the celebration.
