Hakeem triumphs

VIJAYAWADA: Top seed M. A. Hakeem of Hyderabad won the South Zone invitational carrom championship defeating J.N. Syam Sundar of Karnataka 25-19, 25-4 in the final at C.R. Club at Chilakaluripet on Sunday.

Earlier, M.A. Hakeem and J. N. Syam Sundar defeated K. Srinivas and L. Surya Prakash respectively to sail into the final.

The results: Men’s singles (final): M.A. Hakeem (Hyd) bt J.N. Syam Sundar (Kar) 25-19, 25-4; (semifinals): J.N. Syma Sundar (Kar) bt L. Surya Prakash (Hyd) 25-10, 25-23; M.A. Hakeem (Hyd) bt K. Srinivas (Hyd) 25-12, 25-23.

Ricky sparkles

Ricky’s 69 helped North Zone score 217 in 88 overs against South Zone in the ACA under-14 inter-zonal tournament at Anantapur on Sunday.

The scores: North Zone 217 in 88 overs (Ricky 69, Syam Sundar 44, Manoj Kumar four for 42, Naren Reddy three for 22) vs. South Zone 33 for two in 15 overs.

Central lifts trophy

Central Zone defeated South Zone by one wicket in the ACA under-19 women’s inter-zonal tournament and lifted the trophy at IGMC Stadium here on Sunday.

The scores: South Zone 173 in 50 overs (S. Mounica Sai 49) lost to Central Zone 174 for nine in 49.3 overs (Silpa Chandrika four for 31). — Sports Reporter
