Indian boys bow out in semifinals

NEW DELHI: Yuki Bhambri saved five matchpoints but a bout of cramps saw him collapse in a heap after leading 4-1 in the decider against Denis Kudla, as India lost 3-0 to the U.S. in the semifinals of the Junior Davis Cup World Group under-16 tennis event at San Luis Potosi, Mexico.

Saurabh Singh lost the first singles, winning a mere two games against Evan King.

In the third set, Yuki broke Kudla in the second game to race to a 4-1 lead, but his legs could not move thereafter owing to a severe bout of cramps. He eventually lost 6-4, 6-7(6), 6-4.In the match for the third place, India will challenge the formidable Russia.

The U.S.will take on Argentina in the final.

The results (semifinals):

U.S. beat India 3-0 (Evan King bt Saurabh Singh 6-2, 6-0; Denis Kudla bt Yuki Bhambri 6-4, 6-7(6), 6-4; Evan King & Raymond Sarmiento bt S.V. Abhishek & Saurabh Singh 6-3, 3-6, 6-4).
