Round-the-clock vigil at KRS

Staff Correspondent

MYSORE: Security personnel are keeping a “round-the-clock” vigil using hi-tech devices at Krishnaraja Sagar and Brindavan Gardens, which attract a large number of people during the Dasara celebrations.

For the first time, anti-sabotage teams have been deployed at the dam site.

The teams have been provided bomb detection equipment.

They have been deployed as a precautionary measure in the wake of the recent serial blasts in Bangalore and elsewhere in the country.

Closed-circuit cameras have been installed across the gardens and on the dam site. Installation of such cameras was a long-pending demand of the police.

Inspector-General of Police (Southern range) Jeevan Kumar Goankar told presspersons that the dam site was being guarded 24 hours. The “round-the-clock” vigil was launched on September 25 and it would continue till October 12. The step had been taken in view of the arrival of a large number of tourists to the place during this time, he added.

Mr. Goankar said visitors would be checked with hand-held metal detectors at all the entry points to the gardens. Instructions had been given to the anti-sabotage teams to screen places such as ticket counters, boating point, musical fountain, and dustbins, he noted.
