Advani for inter-religion dialogue

GUWAHATI: Senior BJP leader L.K. Advani on Monday called for a frank and constructive inter-religion dialogue on all issues “that may be agitating the minds of this or that community.”

Mr. Advani made this call during a meeting with church leaders and leaders of other faiths including Hinduism, Islam, and Buddhism in Shillong. “Let the people belonging to all religious communities consciously strengthen the bonds of Indianness that tie us together in the larger interest of national community,” he said.

The BJP leader told journalists at the Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi International Airport here that during his visit to Shillong he had availed of the opportunity to comment on the incidents of killing of “innocent Christians” and “attacks on some churches” in parts of Orissa and Karnataka.

“I strongly condemn these acts of violence and vandalism which cannot be condoned or justified. The law must take its course and the culprits must be brought to justice,” he said.
