NEW DELHI: Defending champions Dieudonne Disi of Rwanda and Deriba Alemu of Ethiopia have confirmed their entry for the Airtel Delhi half marathon to be held on November 9. Disi, with a personal best of 59:00, had clocked 60.43 minutes while winning last year and bettered the event record of 61.36 set by Kenyan Francis Kibiwott in 2006. Alemu won the women’s event in 70.30 minutes, also breaking the course record of 70.40. The Delhi event has been awarded the Gold Label by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and offers a prize money of $210,000, an increase of $50,000 from last year. — Special Correspondent © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
