Tight security at temples and vulnerable places

PUDUKOTTAI: Security will be provided at all major temples, churches and other places of worship besides other vulnerable places in the district, in the wake of the bomb blast in New Delhi, the District Collector Reeta Harish Thakkar has said.

Presiding over a consultative meeting to chalk out the programme for deploying security personnel held here on Monday, the Collector said that the district administration had identified major ancient temples, tourism centres and heritage sites in the district where tight security measures would be provided.

Bomb detection and defusing squads would be posted at all these centres.

She said that adequate life-saving drugs and blood would be stocked at the hospitals, as part of emergency treatment process. Round-the-clock vigil would be kept at all railway stations and bus stands against the movement of suspicious persons. The control room of the Fire Service and Rescue Department would be linked with that of the police department, for a co-ordinated operation during any unforeseen incident.

The Collector also appealed to the public to furnish vital tip-off about the movement of suspicious persons, if any, immediately.

The Superintendent of Police, P. Moorthi, the Sub Collector, P. uthuveeran, the Revenue Divisional Officer, Aranthangi, S. Visagan participated in the meeting.
