SIVAKASI: A section of the people of Kakkivadanpatti who had deserted their houses, observed a token fast on Tuesday demanding to hand over the administration of Kaliamman temple to them. The fast that began at 11.30 a.m. went on till 5.30 p.m., police sources said. The protestors would resume their fast on Wednesday pressing right to worship in a bhajan mutt. They also wanted the Government to take over a commercial complex in the village. The villagers left their houses and took refuge in a temple at Uppupatti on September 25, after the Kaliamman temple was closed following a dispute between two groups. Though the temple was opened on Sunday, the people continued their protest with fresh demands. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
