CHENNAI: Officials of the Dock Intelligence Unit, Customs, Seaport, on Monday inspected two containers at a private container freight station at Tondiarpet and seized 42,100 kg of rice meant for export to Singapore. C. Rajan, Commissioner of Customs, Seaport, said the containers were declared to contain 46,000 kg of white crystal sugar in 1,840 bags. Only the first layer of bags kept in both containers had sugar. The seized rice was valued at Rs.10.5 lakh and the sugar, Rs.57,000.
