Census of differently-abled under way

KARUR: Census of the differently-abled was under way in the district and officials would visit the disabled in their place of stay for the enumeration, said Collector T.N. Venkatesh.

Stating that all differently-abled persons such as physically challenged, aurally challenged, mentally ill, dumb, those afflicted by leprosy and also those who suffer from congenital disabilities or deformities could get themselves enumerated, Mr. Venkatesh has pointed out that the national level identity cards that would be issued to the disabled would be of paramount importance for the persons to get any governmental benefit.

Anganwadi workers, village health nurses, noon meal organizers, social welfare extension officers, gram sevaki, mukya sevakis and makkal nala paniyalargal had been instructed to undertake the enumeration in full by meeting the respective officials and the disabled must get the relevant forms filled and returned before October 6 if they had not signed them already, it was stated in a press release.
