BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday rejected an interlocutory application (IA) by a mine owner of Tumkur district seeking permission to transport the mineral ore he had mined from Jodilakumenahalli. The mine owner had filed the IA when the court was hearing his petition challenging the action of the authorities in levying a fine on him. He subsequently filed an IA urging the court to permit him to transport the ores he had already mined. Opposing the IA, the State Government said the mine owner had been granted mining lease in 640 acres in Jodilakumenahalli near Chikanayakanahalli in 1962. It said the lease for the land had expired in 1982. The affidavit said that the mine owner had encroached upon forest land and started mining there. Justice D.V. Shylendra Kumar dismissed the IA and adjourned the main case. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
