THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Flooded with complaints from various quarters, the State Government is likely to order a top-level inquiry into the functioning of the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) soon. Stating this at a press conference here on Tuesday, the Sports Minister, M. Vijayakumar said it was the policy of the Government not to intervene in the functioning of any State sports association. However, the allegations raised against the KCA were quite serious in nature. “So we are ascertaining whether there is any truth in the complaints received. In the event, the Government will not hesitate in instituting a top-level inquiry if the charges are found to be true.” Mr. Vijayakumar said since the complaints also portrayed corrupt practices, it had to be studied in detail before arriving at a final decision about the nature of inquiry to be ordered. “Money, it does seem, is the basic problem. The KCA is flush with funds, richer than any other sports association in the State. The Government would like all associations to be transparent in their dealings and all sports officials to observe utmost care and probity while dealing with public money,” he said. The Kerala State Sports Council (KSSC) president, T.P. Dasan said the Council too was in possession of several complaints against the KCA. “We too have received several complaints. We are also studying the matter in detail on how to solve the issue,” he said. — Special Correspondent © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
