Southern Railway clears retirement benefit dues

CHENNAI: Southern Railway has arranged for payment of dues, arising out the revised pay recommended by the Sixth Pay Commission, to all staff and officers who retired on Tuesday.

An official release said 190 officials had superannuated . The revised pay scales had resulted in an approximate increase of 65-75 per cent in the pension and other retirement benefits. General Manager, Southern Railway, distributed cheques to the retired officials at a function held on Tuesday.

Special trains

Southern Railway will operate special trains to clear the rush during the Ramzan/Pooja holidays.

Train no. 0601 will leave Chennai Central at 10.20 p.m. on October 5, 12 and 19 and reach Coimbatore at 7 a.m. the next day. No. 0602 will leave Coimbatore at 11.45 p.m. on October 6, 13 and 20 and reach Chennai at 8.30 a.m. the next day.

No. 0628 will leave Ernakulam at 5 p.m. on October 6 and 13 and reach Chennai Central at 5.15 a.m. the next day. No. 0627 will leave Chennai Central at 5 p.m. on October 7 and 14 and will reach Ernakulam at 4.30 a.m. the next day. Reservation will begin on Wednesday.
