M. Karunanidhi CHENNAI: Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Wednesday announced that the scheme to grant pattas to houses built on encroached government poramboke lands five years ago will be extended by a year. In January 2007, the government announced a scheme which made encroachments made 10 years ago or earlier eligible for grant of pattas, subject to certain conditions. The scheme was to be in operation for six months. But given the response from the people, the scheme was extended by a year. Also, the income limit was done away with and the time of occupation reduced from 10 years to five years. The scheme will now be in operation till September 30, 2009. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
