T. S. Krishna donates blood for 46th time on Tuesday

Tiruvannamalai: For T.S.Krishna (49), who donated blood for the 46th time on Tuesday with a motive to help fellow humans in distress, ‘B positive’ is not only his blood group but also his life’s principle.

Krishna, a resident of Vellore, served as Public Relations Officer in TamilNadu Industrial Explosives Limited (TEL), before he got voluntary retirement. He donated blood for the 46th time at Government Headquarters Hospital blood bank at Tiruvannamalai in view of National Voluntary Blood Donation Day.

Though he had started donating blood as early as in 1980, he got the thrust to take it up as a mission from a personal suffering that occurred to him in 1983. Then, his mother underwent a surgery in Chennai.

“Though I was waiting in front of operation theatre doctors utilised some other donor’s blood available in their blood bank. Though she looked well soon after the surgery she suffered from jaundice after a few days. Later it became clear that they had infused the jaundice infected blood. The fact that I could not donate even to my mother made me donate blood vigorously. I used to donate once in three months regularly,” says Mr. Krishna. He is now working as Administrative Officer of Arunai Engineering College, Tiruvannamalai.

He owes his splendid record to Shanthi Ranganathan and Banu Ragunathan, founding secretaries of Voluntary Blood Bank, Chennai for the kind of motivation he got from them.

More awareness needed

Asked on how to make the blood donation movement more vibrant, Mr. Krishna said that creating more awareness was the need of the hour.
