Naidu’s anti-corruption campaign takes off today

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu’s two-month, State-wide, anti-corruption campaign will take off from Yellampalli project area in Karimnagar district on Gandhi Jayanti.

Addressing a press conference, Mr. Naidu said corruption has reached unprecedented levels in the State, from urban to village areas, under the four-and-a-half year rule of the Congress. “If it is allowed to flourish, people will lose faith in democracy”.

He did not believe that corruption was not an issue with people. On one side, the tribals were dying of fevers and lack of medical aid while on the other, there was corruption in every scheme and project launched by the Government.

The shifting of an IAS officer from Agriculture to Transport, then to Civil Supplies and back to Agriculture all within a few months shows the level of corruption in administration. It was clear that the officer was causing “inconvenience” to vested interests, he said. The Government had no answer to hoarding of fertilizer and was hiding files on Yellampalli project. 0Mr. Naidu said the party was organising “Yuva Garjana” in Guntur on October 24, to be addressed by him and film star, Nandamuri Balakrishna as youth should be in the forefront of the fight against corruption.

He was highly critical of the Government’s handling of the 570 weavers committing suicide.
