‘Sehwag a dangerous customer’

HYDERABAD: Australian captain Ricky Ponting says he is not averse to the idea of leading Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League in the next edition.

During an informal interaction with the media here on Tuesday night during an endorsement campaign, Ponting said that he always enjoyed captaincy.

“Probably, if I play the full season I might get a chance to lead my franchisee in the IPL,” he said with a big smile.

Right move

Referring to Adam Gilchrist replacing V.V.S. Laxman as captain of Deccan Chargers, the Aussie skipper felt that it was the right move. “Gilly has been a tremendous deputy in the Australian team and also led the national team with distinction whenever the opportunity arose. I believe that Chargers will be a different side in the coming edition as they now have a very good coach also in Darren Lehmann,” he said.

Commenting on the forthcoming Test series with India, Ponting said that besides Sachin Tendulkar, he would pick Virender Sehwag as a dangerous customer. “He is one batsman who can really dominate you on his day.”

Ponting also hinted that he was looking forward to meeting India skipper Anil Kumble and have a free and frank talk to ensure that the series is played in a fair and competitive spirit.
