Collection of verses by a budding poetess

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: Anu Joshy, a 12th standard student at Hari Sri Vidya Nidhi School, Thrissur, has brought out her first collection of poems ‘When My Heart Speaks.’

The 45 poems in the collection deal with a variety of subjects with great passion, the prime concern being an urgent desire to “make this place better,” as the first lines of the poem ‘A Fool’s Dream’ says. That social concern runs throughout the collection like a strong thread that holds together varying emotions, portraying a sensitive mind, acutely aware of the world around her.

The book was released by Prof. Sarah Joseph and Dr. Alexander Jacob who wrote the preface to the collection of poetry is full of praise for the young poetess. She is indeed blessed with a keen eye, command over the medium and rich imagination.

The poems are uncluttered and come with images that are easily identified and understood. They are as clear as the daylight, portraying a world that is full of wars, exploitation, anxiety, loss of innocence and remembrance of the past. Though “Time often wears the disguise of a slow tired traveller,” it never stops soaring forward and “remains unconquered,” says the author in the poem titled ‘Time.’

Bringing out the collection of poems was the fulfilment of a great dream, she said. It was her dream sustained by a large number of other people who were supportive of the effort, she added.
