Tenneti’s services recalled

VISAKHAPATNAM: The services of Tenneti Viswanadham to the city as also to Andhra Pradesh were recalled by speakers at a meeting on the occasion of his 114 birth anniversary on Wednesday.

Mayor P. Janardhana Rao, who garlanded the statue of Viswanadham at Jagadamba junction, said the corporation’s building was named after the leader in recognition of his services. He recalled how the government released a stamp in honour of Viswanadham.

Born in 1895 at Lakkavaram, Viswanadham completed his graduation in Mrs. A.V.N. College and later took part in the freedom movement, the Mayor said.

Visakhapatnam-1 MLA D. Srinivas recalled the role of Teneti Viswanadham in the movement for establishing the steel plant, which had ensured jobs to a number of people in the city. As an MP (1967-1971), he contributed a lot for the welfare of the people of the city.

MLA Saripalli Rangaraju, Deputy Mayor K. Dorabbayi, corporator P. Jyothi, city Congress president Tainala Vijayakumar and others garlanded the statue of Viswanadham.

Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University B. Satyanarayana offered floral tributes at the statue and recalled the contributions of Viswanadham to various sections of society.
